Description Henry Ristau 2007-05-02 16:46:00 UTC
When X starts, it immediately crashes. This seems to go on for ever.
I tried pressing <CTRL>+<ALT>+<Backspace> again and again and right than the X-server seems to start normaly.

Now it seems to be running fine but has some mouse issues. The mouse is a 9 button Microsoft Explorer. But when I run

/usr/bin/xmodmap -e "pointer = 1 8 3 4 5 6 7 2 9"

to setup my favorite button behaviour it reports "Warning: Only changing the first 9 of 1 buttons." and the buttons behave like standard.

The reasons why I see these problems connected, are
1. They both started after the last update
2. The Xorg.log and Xorg.log.old

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1.start X
2.wait and watch it crashing
3.hammer <CTRL>+<ALT>+<Backspace> until it is up
4.watch mouse

the for me unusual end of Xorg.log.old (the crashed one):

yes, it ends here. I remember it being different in the end. but may be me...
Comment 1 Henry Ristau 2007-05-02 18:05:20 UTC
seems to be solved by a change in configuration for the mouse. formerly the mouse (Wireless Intellimouse Explorer 2.0) had to be used through driver "evdev" to support the 9 buttons. now this leads to the problem and the mouse is supported through driver "mouse".
sorry for not trying harder before the report ;o)
