We have setup and are submitting for testing, a new rsync server. gentoo.cede.psu.edu is a dual 1.2GHz Athlon with a gig of ram. It has ultra160 SCSI raid and a gigabit ethernet connection. Right now we have a bottleneck of 100mbit out to the campus network, but that should be upgraded soon to gigabit, leaving the PSU outbound OC-12 as our bandwidth bottleneck. Right now we have a limit of 20 users, but are willing to increase as long as the load doesn't get too high on the server. Please add root@cede.psu.edu to the mailing list instead of me personally. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. 2. 3.
Thanks for helping to support Gentoo Linux. I've added your server to the list of servers allowed to sync against our master rsync mirror, rsync1.us.gentoo.org. Please update your rsync cron job to point against that server. Also, please make sure you're syncing every half-hour at exactly :00 and :30. Once you're syncing against the master, we'll monitor the server for a couple days to make sure everything runs smoothly, then add it to the main rotation.
did a full rsync, verified the timestamp with no problems. added server to rotation. this server is now rsync7.us.gentoo.org. Thanks for the help!
This mirror has gone down and I no longer work there. I set up a new server in a different place on the same campus. Could we just move the DNS? The new host is: ender.aset.psu.edu 128.118.99.31
Phil, Apologies on the late response. I've updated the ACL and DNS entries for this. Should be good to go in less than an hour. Thanks! -Jeffrey
