Description DEMAINE Benoît-Pierre, aka DoubleHP 2007-04-28 23:17:20 UTC
When Thunderbird asks for a passworf for enigmail, it lock up the keyboard a very nasty way. Using E17, the windows that has the focus is the one where mouse points; when focussing a console, mouse can select, copy, and paste things from window to any window, but anything hit on keyboard produce stars in TB popup.

This means, even when TB do not have focus, it still caches keys.

Also means, if user is typing in non TB window, and for some reason (like time out forcing re-asking Enigmail password before re-saving a draft) TB pops-up again, even if user do not focus on TB, and keep focusing on usual application, application does not respond any more to keyboard. This may lead to accidentally type a wrong password, validate it, and get VERY HANGRY VERY FAST against the wrong application, without any way to understand the origine of the problem.

Worst: if the user needs the keyboard to access a tip to help remembering the password, that impossible without cancelling the pop-up.

If due to other bugs the pop-up refuses to get canceled (this part does not reproduce each time, happened only once when asked for password while sending message; seems not to happen when reading emails, or saving draft), the whole X cession is locked due to TB., forcing to hard quit X using ^+M+<- .

Encontoured 4 bugs at a time in the same pop-up, really frustrated.

Test with -bin version.

Cant see any différence. Exactly all the same bugs (filters problem, pop locking all X inputs, X glitches, and many other ones).

Test with the thunderbird downloaded from mozilla.com.

If you still have the same problem, then we can't do nothing to fix that. Since it fails anyway with the -bin version.

Btw, you're not using any theme for thunderbird, right?

neither Gentoo nor Mozilla ever fixed a bug I had on Mozilla, TB, or FF. Every body tell me to test -bin and snapshots, they always also bug, and bugs never get fixed. So, I close and shut up, and never report again about Mozilla products.

If -bin has the same problem then it's a Mozilla thing, not Gentoo. We can't do nothing to fix that.
