I'm booting from a gentoo-ix86-1.1a.iso boot cd, I get the lilo prompt, press enter, it starts detecting hardware, finds my ide controllers (a via on-board controller, and a promise ata 100 on-board controller), probes ide0 upto ide3, probes hda - hdg and then just locks up. I've tried repeatedly but the problem persists. PC Info: Asus A7V with BIOS 1010A, AMD Duron 750, 2*256 MB PC133, ... Other distributions boot normally (I just tried Redhat 7.2 to make sure) Any ideas?
In your kernels config file (/usr/src/linux/.config), do you have these set? : CONFIG_BLK_DEV_PDC202XX=y CONFIG_PDC202XX_BURST=y Check the block devices section in make menuconfig.
I haven't installed anything yet - it locks up when booting the kernel that's on the installation cd. So is there no kernel configuration to modify yet. :)
Oops, i meant: "So there is no kernel config to modify yet"
This is sooo not my area :o) Passing it back to you dude...
can you please test with a gentoo-1.2 iso and confirm that this is still a bug?
I will test 1.2 (or newer if released by then) in 4 weeks - when I am on the same continent as the PC again :-) I am surprised that there are no other Asus A7V owners with similar problems...
Created attachment 4748 [details] Screenshot of lockup after booting livecd-ut2003-i586-1.4.1.iso When booting from the latest livecd-ut2003-i586-1.4.1.iso my computer again locks up after detecting the ide devices. You can see where it locks up in this screenshot.
PING: Still alive? New experimentals for 1.4 are out and have lots of fixes... Have we tried/tested them?
if this is still a problem, then unfix it, otherwise close or verify it.
1.4rc2 live cd boots fine on asus A7V with latest beta bios 1012.01a. Problem resolved. This bug is deceased :-)
