Description Cletus Lichte 2003-03-16 09:24:01 UTC
I saw something in the topic on #gentoo about an sgml fix and as I was
experiencing some probs with errors and warnings with docs while compiling
gnome, I decided to try the fix to see if it would clear up some issues. I wish
I had never done it because now nothing will compile on my system. When
following the instructions, I found and removed the cruft that the sgml fix
talks about and now none of it will compile. I get the following errors:

  echo '-- Installing ./html/index.sgml' ; \
  /bin/install -c -m 644 ./html/index.sgml /tmp/portage/gconf-2.2.0/image//usr
/share/gtk-doc/html/gconf; \

Could you tell me what the output of ls -l /var/db/pkg/app-text is?
Comment 2 Cletus Lichte 2003-03-16 14:22:18 UTC
Yes, here is the output of ls -l /var/db/pkg/app-text/ :

Comment 3 Cletus Lichte 2003-03-18 22:17:06 UTC
Is there something that I need to try to get this working? I *really* need to install some software and don't want to set -doc as I need the docs for the libs. Should I try the fix again to see if it works this time? Should I re-emerge everything in app-text/ ? Thanks for any info.
Comment 4 Matthew Turk (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2003-03-18 22:20:03 UTC
Ok. Here's the way I see it -- index.html was not generated. Could you send me a
private e-mail (satai@gentoo.org) containing the *entire* log of the build that fails? In
addition, could you send me a .tar.gz of the /usr/tmp/portage/PACKAGE directory,
after it fails?

I will get back to you ASAP on this issue. If you would like, try the SGML fix again; but I
think if I see the tarballs that would be more productive.
Comment 5 Cletus Lichte 2003-03-28 12:12:12 UTC
I still have no functioning system. What else can I provide to help with this problem? Whatever I need to send please let me know. Thanks!
Comment 6 Cletus Lichte 2003-04-04 00:58:45 UTC
After a few emails and a meeting with satai on irc we decided that I needed to run the fix again and verify that *everything* had been unmerged. After unmerging everything in package.txt I noticed that there were still catalog files in /etc/sgml even though it had all been unmerged. I verified that everything had indeed been removed from my system and instead of continuing with the fix I decided to just emerge the program that was giving me problems and let it decide what sgml stuff to emerge. It seems to have worked and I can now compile progs with the doc USE variable set. Thanks satai!
Comment 7 Cletus Lichte 2003-04-04 01:02:46 UTC
One thing I didn't mention in my last post was that after I noticed that there were still catalog files left after unmerging everything in package.txt, I continued with the fix up to re-emerging everything in package.txt. I did rm all the things that were mentioned in the fix.
Comment 8 Matthew Turk (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2003-04-09 21:45:43 UTC
No prob. I've looked even further, and someone has reported that xhtml1 breaks
things. So it's now a blocked package by gtk-doc, which has all the problems.
Comment 9 Carsten Lohrke (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2003-11-20 01:21:07 UTC
Hi! I was curious about the xhtml1 block in gtk-doc ( Bug 33843 ) and don't think it solves this problem. The latest ebuilds I faced this problem are gimp-1.3.22 and libmrproject-0.10 ( Bug 33811 ). I remerged gtk-doc to be sure.
