java-check-environment has a check for broken fastjar in 0.13. Arches please mark it stable so that hopefully we don't get these reports caused by fastjar.

See bug 135688 for more details on how this happens.
Comment 2 DocReedSolomon 2007-04-24 11:35:31 UTC
is fastjar a dependency? i do not have that one installed at all.

 java-check-environment
 * === Java Environment Checker ===
 * The purpose of this script is to check the sanity of your Java Environment.
 * We have significantly changed and improved the way Java is handled in many
 * respects.
 * Please refer to our upgrade guide for details:
 *      http://www.gentoo.org/proj/en/java/java-upgrade.xml

 * Checking fastjar ...
gcc-config error: /usr/bin/fastjar wrapper: Could not determine which compiler to use. Invalid CTARGET or CTARGET has no selected profile.
gcc-config error: /usr/bin/fastjar wrapper: Could not determine which compiler to use. Invalid CTARGET or CTARGET has no selected profile.
grep: test.txt: Datei oder Verzeichnis nicht gefunden
 * Your /usr/bin/fastjar was not able to create a jar file.
 * See https://bugs.gentoo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=135688
 * for details. If you have had eselect-compiler installed
 * just delete /usr/bin/fastjar. Otherwise report this to
 * http://bugs.gentoo.org.                                                                                                                              [ !! ]

 * Some problems were found. Please follow the instructions above, and rerun java-check-environment

and i *am* using java-config-wrapper-0.13

maybe an ebuild should be updated to pull fastjar in?
Comment 3 DocReedSolomon 2007-04-24 11:45:07 UTC
btw..

equery depends gjdoc
[ Searching for packages depending on gjdoc... ]
net-dns/libidn-0.6.5-r1 (java? dev-java/gjdoc)
equery depends libidn
[ Searching for packages depending on libidn... ]
kde-base/kdelibs-3.5.6-r5 (net-dns/libidn)
kde-base/kdenetwork-3.5.6 (net-dns/libidn)
net-misc/curl-7.15.5 (idn? net-dns/libidn)
net-misc/whois-4.7.20 (net-dns/libidn)

so i only need gjdoc to satisfy libidn.

reading:
http://bugs.gentoo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=135688

i am running:
[ebuild   R   ] sys-devel/gcc-4.1.2  USE="fortran gtk nls (-altivec) -bootstrap -build -d -doc -gcj (-hardened) -ip28 -ip32r10k -mudflap (-multilib) -multislot (-n32) (-n64) -nocxx -objc -objc++ -objc-gc -test -vanilla"

not gcc 4.2. if i understand the bugreport correctly, i wouldnt even need fastjar. but maybe the gcj flag would have to be set?

hmm.. just guessing here.

No because the jar provided by your JDK is just fine too. gjdoc just prefers /usr/bin/fastjar if it is installed. Why don't you take the time to read what java-check-environment tells you to do:
 * Your /usr/bin/fastjar was not able to create a jar file.
 * See https://bugs.gentoo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=135688
 * for details. If you have had eselect-compiler installed
 * just delete /usr/bin/fastjar. Otherwise report this to
 * http://bugs.gentoo.org.
Comment 5 DocReedSolomon 2007-04-24 12:25:18 UTC
excuse, maybe i am too dumb to get your point?

no, i do *not* have eselect-compiler installed, neither do i have fastjar installed. and, no, i do not have gcc 4.2 either

what am i missing here? seriously, i dont get that ;(

Comment 6 DocReedSolomon 2007-04-24 12:29:00 UTC
addition:
the filedate of my /usr/bin/fastjar is dated june 2006. maybe i simply move that away and see what happens?
Comment 7 DocReedSolomon 2007-04-24 12:38:58 UTC
OK, moveing fastjar away did the trick. question is, where did the file come from? and why wasnt it removed? strange..

if i use a binary editor to view fastjar, i see "GCC: (GNU) 4.1.1 (Gentoo 4.1.1)"

to mee, that looks it wasnt removed from the upgrade gcc 4.1.1 to gcc 4.1.2? that actually shouldnt happen, or?

Please read again carefully:
 * Your /usr/bin/fastjar was not able to create a jar file.
 * See https://bugs.gentoo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=135688
 * for details. If you have had eselect-compiler installed
 * just delete /usr/bin/fastjar. Otherwise report this to
 * http://bugs.gentoo.org.

"If you have had" means that you had eselect-compiler installed sometimes in the past, not means it's necessarily still installed now. Grep your /var/log/emerge.log for eselect-compiler and you will see.
Comment 10 DocReedSolomon 2007-04-24 14:01:03 UTC
ah, understood, sorry.
well, i dont keep my emergelog *that* long. could be that eselect-compiler was installed june 2006, i seriously dont recall that now.

still funny that this problem showed up here just recently. everything else compiled really smoothly.

OK, thx for the hints and help, solved for me!
