1. stop shouting!
2. if you assign an IP manually and bring the interface up, does it actually work? I suspect problems in the kernel, not Gentoo.

Please attach:
 1. "ifconfig -a" output
 2. "dmesg" output

twice - once for UP, once for SMP

sorry i mean need didn't even see my spelling error
Comment 9 Daniel Drake (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2007-04-29 17:43:37 UTC
I assume the output in comment #5 is from the working (non-smp) kernel. Please can you post the same from a broken (SMP) kernel?

The dmesg output is incomplete -- the top part is missing. Chances are the log buffer overflowed. Please increase CONFIG_LOG_BUF_SHIFT in your kernel config, it's found here:

 Kernel hacking -->
  [*] Kernel debugging
  (16)  Kernel log buffer size (16 => 64KB, 17 => 128KB) (NEW)

Try setting it to 16 or 17.

Also, please use the bugzilla attachment feature rather than referring to external URLs.

So, please increase the log buffer size, attach new dmesg output from the working kernel, then enable SMP and attach new dmesg output from the broken kernel. Thanks!
