Description Philip Walls (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2003-03-15 10:51:52 UTC
Here is a binary package of the Planeshift game which uses the Crystal Space
engine, it is important to note that this package doesn't in fact depend on
Crystal Space or CEL since all needed libaries are included in the package.

I am working on a planeshift-cvs ebuild as well, though I haven't had time to
work on it in the last few days. It also presents a problem since all of the
media (maps, models, etc) are not in the CVS tree.

Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:

planeshift-bin ebuild

This needs to be tested fairly heavily before being commited, I used the games
eclass to the best of my knowledge, but I'm sure several things are improperly
done.

I'll take care of this one

Okay, I put this in portage, if anyone has any problems, feel free to contact me.

just a suggestion:

how about if a dependancy for planeshift-cvs.ebuild would be planeshift-bin.ebuild - i mean this way the problem with the arts, etc. would be solved (at least temporary until the arts, music, etc. are freely downloadable somewhere without problems)
Comment 5 Philip Walls (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2003-04-26 08:55:03 UTC
There currently is no planeshift-cvs ebuild, anyway the regular planeshift-0.2.010 package contains the art files as well.. I suggest you look into emerging it (remove planeshift-bin first)

maybe i was missuderstood.

you were saying the problem with the cvs version is that there's a lack of mirrors for the art. my idea was that one should have the planeshift.ebuild set as a dependancy for the planeshift-cvs.ebuild ...that way you would have arts installed and planeshift-cvs.ebuild would overwrite only what one can get in the CVS tree. - this could solve the art problem you have
Comment 7 Philip Walls (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2003-04-29 06:37:19 UTC
I've decided not to go the CVS direction with Planeshift. It would be best if we kept a compatible version with the master server at all times.

The other thing is that it's not a good idea for two packages to overwrite the same files, so I will have to turn this idea down.

Just in case you're not sure about the current situation:

* planeshift-bin is deprecated and no longer in portage
* planeshift-cvs never was in portage ;)
* planeshift is the defacto Planeshift ebuild to emerge

app-games/planeshift contains the art and source, so you are building from source and the art is still there for you. I went through a lot of hubub to get this file on the mirrors and I'll be sure to keep this package in sync with the master server's version in the future.
