Boot process stops, using the LiveCD 1.4-r3, after loading the USB drivers successfully. This was done on a Compaq Presario 1215, AMD athlon-4 notebook. I have had this problem (broken usb stuff) before on several of the 2.4 kernels. Ideally it would be nice if I could boot with a nousb option that would stop the scripts from probing Compaq's broken hardware:) Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. 2. 3.
Many of the Dell machines have had the same problem for quite a while. Any usb drivers would freeze the keyboard rendering the machine unusable. However, more recently, Dell released a BIOS update (A02) which fixed this issue to my great relief. Nevertheless, I second the request to have a choice of whether to load USB or not perhaps by using a boot time parameter such as usb=off. Mitch, check for Compaq BIOS updates and apply the latest one if you haven't already. Also, for the purposes of the installation one can disable the usb controller option in the BIOS and this can be re-enabled later when using the finished system.
Thanks but... I found two BIOS updates a while ago, something to fix XP stuff, applied them anyways - No change. As for disabling the usb controller in the BIOS, I wish... The BIOS menu has alomst no options, basically you can only change the boot device order. So I really still need a (usb=no), boot option, or something to try out > LiveCD 1.4-rc2.
latest experimental livecd has options to not load
