Description Chris Phillips 2003-03-14 08:29:41 UTC
Just a feature request for portage really. The gaim osd patch is really good,
and i've ever had any problems with it for the months i've been running it from
manually patching it myself.

would be really great to have it as an optional feature in the gaim ebuild.

Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:

I've modified the gaim ebuild so that gaimosd is installed as well. The ebuild can be found here: http://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic.php?t=46565

The problem is that there's no suitable use flag to use with gaimosd and I really don't think xosd and gaimosd should be gaim dependencies without a use flag...

A new useflag called osd would solve everything :)

please attach a correct ebuild and don't make us look for one in some thread.

reassigning to bugwranglers, gaim isn't usually handled by the gnome team.

And this isn't a GRP bug is it ?

Kinda what foser said, I'll add this feature to the gaim ebuild if you can find or make a working ebuild what installs the osd stuff based on a local useflag of osd, thanks.

I don't believe that the patch is currently working, gaim seems to have removed and redesigned a number of parts of the source, so the patches won't work any more until the osd patch set is updated...

I checked in on their homepage and it looks like the latest patch they have is for gaim-0.64. We shall continue to play the waiting game.

Check the CVS log. It's currently being updated for it. I am willing to make the new ebuild that checks the local osd flag, although it won't work until either
a) we pull a cvs snapshot of it when its nicely-working in cvs
or
b) we await for a new release.

Ill post it here later today most likely.

Let's wait for a new release. Checking for stable CVS is like watching paint dry. Plus we will inevitably end up trying to support some upstream CVS instabilities.

does the latest release work with latest gaim ?
now that we can support gaim plugins as sep packages perhaps this is more feasible ?
Comment 9 Don Seiler (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2004-01-12 14:20:02 UTC
Definitely more feasable but they don't yet have a release out that will work. I was told their fixes for recent gaim versions are in CVS. I'm not too receptive to supporting a cvs ebuild.

Just an FYI that I was chatting with deryni in #gaim and he says he'll be setting up the autoconf/automake stuff and then we'll be able to have our nice package.

I haven't forgotten about you. ;)
