After upgrading to gnome-2.18 and 0.16.0-r1 gnome-terminal's real transparency stopped working. According to this forum, vte needs to be patched:

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1.Configure gnome-terminal to show a transparent background.
2.Use a composite enabled window-manager like beryl.

Actual Results:  
Instead of being transparent, the terminal window remains in the configured background color (black in my case).

Expected Results:  
Be transparent.

Please report this upstream if it's still an issue w/ compiz{,-fusion} and post the URL here; beryl is gone.
