In the howto you propose to store the password in the file /etc/conf.d/net. After this one should change the permissions on that file so that only root can read/edit the file.
Wouldn't it be easier to store the password in the file /etc/ppp/pap-secrets as the permissions are already set suitable?

the point of unifying everything in /etc/conf.d/net is so that people dont need to edit multiple files anymore (including but not limited to /etc/ppp/pap-secrets)
