VLC does not play AAC audio, even though ffmpeg is compiled with aac useflag.

$ vlc http://www.di.fm/aacplus/lounge.pls

could you please provide the output of emerge -pv ffmpeg vlc ?
and also please attach the output of:
vlc -vv  http://www.di.fm/aacplus/lounge.pls


perhaps you could also try : vlc  --reset-plugins-cache
sometimes plugin cache causes problems

You are right. After re-emerging ffmpeg and vlc, it works.
