Description Johann Scheepers 2003-03-13 13:34:26 UTC
Upon booting, after the livecd has modprobed through all modules, i notice the
tulip module is loaded instead of the dmfe module. This causes all networking
for that device to not work, although you can go through the whole net-setup
eth0 and whatnot.

Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1. Boot from liveCD
2. lsmod |grep tulip

Expected Results:
module dmfe must be probed instead of tulip

cat /proc/pci :
Ethernet controller: Davicom Semiconductor, Inc. Ethernet 100/10 MBit (rev 64).
      IRQ 11.
      Master Capable. Latency=32. Min Gnt=20.Max Lat=40.
      I/O at 0xe400 [0xe4ff].
      Non-prefetchable 32 bit memory at 0xe3000000 [0xe30000ff].
<end>

My davicom NIC has the 'Davicom DM910x' chipset.
This is a serious bug, seeing that no-one knowing of this will never get their
gentoo installation to go any further that the net-setup part.

the latest experimental livecds should have
better hw/nic detection, instead of just a force
of modules.
We will see.
