Description Chris Mohler 2007-04-13 20:59:45 UTC
Using the 2006.1 Live cd I cannot get the GUI or command line installer to recognize any hard drives attached to a Mylex Dac960 hardware raid controller. The kernel module DAC960 loads correctly but when the gui installer gets to the part where drives should be partitioned none show up. The CLI installer just crashes

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1.setup the mylex controller with one raid 5 array and one logical drive (Mylex calls them system drives)
2.Boot the 2006.1 Live cd
3.load up xterm and make sure the DAC960 module is installed "modprobe DAC960"
4. Proceed to install where no drives will be found.

Actual Results:
in GUI no Hard drives were found
In CLI it crashes and closes

Expected Results:
a single hard drive should show up and allow an install should be called c0d0 as it is listed in /dev/rd/c0d0

http://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic-t-552764.html Here is the Gentoo forum post with the suggestions and steps I have taken to resolve the problems. I am fairly new to Linux and Gentoo, hopefully I have not overlooked something. Feel free to contact me if you need any other information.

That's because the installer doesn't yet support installing on raid arrays that create retarded device nodes. This *might* be fixed in a newer version. You can just do a normal install for now. Resolving this as later.

Bah... I specifically told Chris to file a bug here so it could get worked on, with the expectation that it would be "LATER" of course... I just hope you don't forget about this bug, especially since you have a guinea pig to resolve it for you.

Is there any specific information that you need that Chris could provide?

If it would speed up the process I do have a spare Mylex DAC960 pci card I could mail to a Dev.

Chris, we will be releasing a beta for 2008.0 soon. If you could test that and report back whether it succeeds or not to this bug, I would be very grateful.
