wolk-sources-4.0_rc1 seems to have a date time set problem when you boot the kernel, so the kernel stop booting. with wolk-sources-4.0_rc2 i have not every device in /dev (the alsa control devices in /dev/sound and /dev/a*) i got also problems with my lvm device (the script tries to modprobe it but can't find it???) but i can mount the partitions on the lvm (they got automatically mounted) also problems with the clock (no syncing with the bios clock possible). Also my tty0 isn't mounted or found. wolk-sources-4.0_rc3: only a make config is possible. make menuconfig stops in course of an awk problem and make xconfig stops because a sound file/module isn't found. so the only version that doesn't course a problem was wolk-sources-4.0_pre10. i am no developer nor have i much experience with kernel programming. So there are most problems with devices in dev i give you too the version of devfsd i use: 1.3.25-rc2. when you have any questions mail me Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. kernel compilation with wolk-sources-4.0_rc1/2 Actual Results: no problems until i reboot. for the rest plz see the Details Expected Results: for the rest plz see the Details Portage 2.0.47-r8 (default-x86-1.4, gcc-3.2.2, glibc-2.3.2-r0) ================================================================= System uname: 2.4.20-wolk4.0s-rc2 i686 AMD Athlon(tm) Processor GENTOO_MIRRORS=" http://ftp.tu-clausthal.de/pub/linux/gentoo/ ftp://ftp.tu-claus thal.de/pub/linux/gentoo/ http://212.219.56.146/sites/www.ibiblio.org/gentoo/" CONFIG_PROTECT="/etc /var/qmail/control /usr/share/config /usr/kde/2/share/confi g /usr/kde/3/share/config /usr/X11R6/lib/X11/xkb" CONFIG_PROTECT_MASK="/etc/gconf /etc/env.d" PORTDIR="/usr/portage" DISTDIR="/usr/portage/distfiles" PKGDIR="/usr/portage/packages" PORTAGE_TMPDIR="/var/tmp" PORTDIR_OVERLAY="/usr/local/portage" USE="tcltk esd mozilla x86 oss 3dnow alsa -apm -arts avi berkdb crypt -cups dvd encode gdbm gif -gpm gtk gtk2 grkhtml imlib java jikes jpeg -kde -gnome libg++ l ibwww mikmod mmx motif mpeg mozaccess-builtin ncurses nls oggvorbis opengl pam p dflib perl png python -qt qtmt quicktime readline sdl slang spell ssl -svga tcpd tiff truetype X xml xml2 xmms xv zlib" COMPILER="gcc3" CHOST="i686-pc-linux-gnu" CFLAGS="-march=athlon -O3 -pipe -fomit-frame-pointer" CXXFLAGS="-march=athlon -O3 -pipe -fomit-frame-pointer" ACCEPT_KEYWORDS="x86 ~x86" MAKEOPTS="-j2" AUTOCLEAN="yes" SYNC="rsync://rsync.gentoo.org/gentoo-portage" FEATURES="sandbox ccache"
or you sure you dont have other system problems happening? i personnaly use wolk-sources and none of the problems you mentiion exist. Also make menuconfig and xconfig work perfect in -rc3
I can't speak to all the other problems he seems to be having, but I can confirm that I am having problems with rc3's config system. make oldconfig gives this: scripts/Configure: line 665: sound/Config.in: No such file or directory make: *** [oldconfig] Error 1 menuconfig dies with an awk error. This happens on 4 different boxes that I have.
rc3 seems to be having digest issues now.
ok, wolk developer said sourceforge is corrupting some of his .bz2 files. changed the ebuild to use the .gz which seems fine. should work now.
