I am able to read IDE hard drive serial numbers using hdparm. I would like the same ability to read SCSI and SATA serial numbers, but hdparm doesn't always properly read the drive info. The alternative is to use sginfo, which is part of the sg3_utils package. I would like this available from the minimal install CD.
Well, we won't add this to the minimal CD. The minimal CD should be nothing more than the bare minimum needed to perform an install using the Handbook. For everything else, you need to look to the LiveCD/LiveDVD, where this package is already slated for inclusion for 2007.0's release.
