Description Jesco Freund 2007-04-07 20:33:30 UTC
I've set up a new full mirror. The server is located in Nuernberg (southern Germany) and equipped with a 100 MBit/sec uplink (the computing center itself has serveal uplinks summing up to 36 GBit/sec). The mirror is accessible via ftp only. It currently offers 50 concurrent slots at 500 KByte/sec each (minimum).

The mirror is syncing every 4 hours according to the gentoo mirror policy beginning at midnight (referring to MEST, which is currently local time for Germany)

If you consider this additional mirror useful, I'd apreciate if you could add it to the official mirror list.

Regards, Jesco

Your mirror is not syncing anymore. I'd hazzard a guess that whoever you were syncing from has banned you from their server. Please choose another and update your mirror until you get access to the masterdistfiles server.

Hmmm, that's odd - my rsync log (just dumping the rsync -v output including stderr) doesn't tell anything about being banned or not being able to sync. As proposed in the mirror guidelines, I use the gentoo-distfiles module at USSG (ftp.ussg.iu.edu) for syncing. So perhaps there is a problem either with this mirror being out of sync (rather unlikely) or there's something wrong with my rsync statement. The last rsync today at 8:00 CEST (6:00 GMT) displayed the following output:

# rsync -v -r -l -D -t --temp-dir=/tmp --delete ftp.ussg.iu.edu::gentoo-distfiles /home/ftp/pub/dist/gentoo >> /var/log/mirror-gentoo-sync.log 2& >> /var/log/mirror-gentoo-sync.log

Just to be sure I started rsync manually two minutes ago; there were just the timestamp files being updated. So if you reckon there is still a problem, could you please give more details about the files not being up to date so I get an initial point for further investigation?

Thanks & best regards
Jesco

P. S. ~520K/s sound good to me - so you still get full slot speed, even half around the globe ;-)

Jesco,

Thanks for wanting to help Gentoo with a mirror, but the mirror is lagging.

 * Timestamp on ftp.my-universe.com is Sun, 01 Jul 2007 08:08:04 +0000
 * Current time in UTC is Wed Jul 4 12:42:00 UTC 2007

Please sync once every 4 hours as mentioned in http://www.gentoo.org/doc/en/source_mirrors.xml and verify that the syncs are happening correctly and then re-open this bug.

Thanks!
