OGRE 1.4 has issues with freeimage from portage: Running the demos throws several exceptions like these: Error loading texture dirt01.jpg. Texture layer will be blank. Loading the texture failed with the following exception: OGRE EXCEPTION(5:ItemIdentityException): Unknown or unsupported image format in FreeImageCodec::decode at OgreFreeImageCodec.cpp (line 361) Compiling the version fetched by portage and not applying freeimage-3.9.3-build.patch and putting it to /usr/local/ works fine. Some ideas that might cause this: * freeimage-3.9.3-build.patch breaks freeimages * /usr/local/ is hardcoded/expected somewhere in freeimage/OGRE Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce:
