Installing myspell dictionary fixed the problem, but aspell is installed and working in other programs. After upgrading to app-office/openoffice-bin-2.2.0 the aspell dictionary disappears (no dictionary shows in options-writing aids) and spell check ceases to work. By emerging myspell the problem was fixed, but reemerging aspell did not help fix the problem.
