Description Toralf Förster gentoo-dev 2007-04-05 15:05:45 UTC
I don't have xorg-server in my world file, but a lot of kde applications and this:
n22 /usr/portage/x11-base/xorg-server # grep x11 /var/lib/portage/world
x11-misc/xfishtank
x11-apps/xprop
x11-misc/googleearth
x11-misc/xlockmore
x11-themes/gtk-theme-switch

So I'm wondering why 'emerge -auD world' doesn't want update anything whereas 'emerge -auD xorg-server' wants to update that package.

Reproducible: Always

n22 /usr/portage/x11-base/xorg-server # emerge --info

Comment 1 Jakub Moc (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2007-04-05 15:16:22 UTC
Because none of the above depends on xorg-server itself.
Comment 2 Toralf Förster gentoo-dev 2007-04-05 15:31:40 UTC
Hhm, after having a ddeper look I've installed :
Sat Jul  1 20:05:08 2006  ::: completed emerge (2 of 2) x11-base/xorg-x11-7.0-r1 to /

OTOH I have:
Fri Jun 30 21:57:13 2006  >>> emerge (7 of 27) x11-base/xorg-server-1.0.2-r7 to /
Fri Jun 30 22:14:53 2006  ::: completed emerge (7 of 27) x11-base/xorg-server-1.0.2-r7 to /

"$>qdepends x11-base/xorg-x11-7.0-r1"
gives the string x11-base/xorg-server-1.0.1 in the result set but tt seems I should explicitly unmerge x11-base/xorg-x11-7.0-r1, isn't it ?
Comment 3 Jakub Moc (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2007-04-05 15:35:43 UTC
Yeah, xorg-x11 is just a meta package left in the tree for convenience.
