MPlayerThumbs is a video thumbnailing plugin for KDE/Konqueror that makes use of MPlayer to generate thumbnail images, unlike the thumbnailer shipped with KDE, which uses artsplugin-xine. Now that KNotify finally works fine with --without-arts, many users have started to emerge KDE with USE="-arts", which results in the loss of video thumbnailing functionality due to the arts dependency. MPlayerThumbs is a welcome alternative that doesn't rely on aRts. Additionally, MPlayerThumbs exhibits superior behavior, as it is actually capable of seeking into the videos and peforming useful checks on frames to determine an appropriate one, unlike the xine thumbnailer. MPlayerThumbs 0.5b is available here: http://www.kde-apps.org/content/show.php/MPlayerThumbs?content=41180 An ebuild for 0.5, that also works with 0.5b when renamed, has been posted here: http://www.kde-apps.org/content/show.php/mplayerthumbs+ebuild?content=41542 I don't know whether that ebuild passes quality assurance (didn't write it), but it worked here. Reproducible: Always
