Completely MIA since July 2006 :( Please retire.
(In reply to comment #0) > Completely MIA since July 2006 :( > > Please retire. > Please add the person in question to the bug.
Hasn't replied to any mail sent to him wrt his retirement. Infra, please retire Martin.
seemant spoke with azarah.
Please don't retire him. He's busy and has intermittent connections, but he will be back. I say this to you, Gentoo: Azarah is your platinum coated gold plated diamond; do not let him go. He is, like vapier and Spanky, absolutely invaluable.
azarah has been inactive for over a year, has not responded to DevRel emails, and jeeves doesnt know when he was last on IRC. (Though a couple of months ago Seemant confirmed that azarah hopes to be back in several more months, no one is really sure if/when it will be.) While we hate to lose a developer who has made such an impact on Gentoo, DevRel is tasked with the maintenance of our developer pool, to include the retirement of inactive developers and revoking their access privileges. It should go without saying (but lets say it anyways) azarah is obviously welcome to contribute via proxy or bugzilla if he finds the time and if/when his schedule allows him the time, he is certainly welcomed back. infra, please retire azarah.
Forums done.
infra has completed: dev, cvs, lists, ldap, jabber, bugzilla.
please 2 reverse all retirement procedures
(In reply to comment #8) > please 2 reverse all retirement procedures > If azarah wants to come back, he can go through the normal procedure for returning devs.
We have no way to contact azarah. He was unresponsive to emails and inactive for over a year. We have no forwarding email address. An email was received from azarah today asking why he couldnt log in. The email had no gpg signature and was sent with his sent/reply-to address being his retired Gentoo address. We have no forwarding email address so emails sent to him will not be received. Azarah is welcomed back, but first we must confirm that he indeed has time to contribute and then he will need to go through the return procedures. If anyone can contact him and put him in touch with me, it would be appreciated.
Spanky was able to find an alternative email address for azarah, who had been without Internet and as a result was unaware of his retirement. Azarah has confirmed that he will be able to return and contribute at a consistent level to meet our requirements. As he was already retired, azarah will need to take the quizzes again and email them to recruiters for review. Final retirement processes put on hold (planet, forums, and devrel processes remain)

Changed assignment to recruiters
(In reply to comment #13) > Changed assignment to recruiters > Haven't heard anything from azarah so moving back to devrel for retirement.
I have been working on a bug or two, but haven't gotten around to doing the tests yet. Will see if I can get to it this weekend.
Moving stuff to the new alias.
Martin has some personal trouble at the moment but is planning to return to Gentoo soon. Therefore this one can be closed.
Looks like Martin was infra-retired many months ago but no other aspects of his retirement were processed. Since he didn't express his will to get his access reinstated for that long, I assume we can continue with the retirement. Forums, please process your side of Martin's retirement. (note to self) To do: Everything except infra-retire.
The forums retirement mentioned in comment #6 was not reversed, so forums done.
Its not that I do not want to come back, but I have put a lot of work into Gentoo, and when I was offline, and did mail some of the Devs about it, nobody really cared and just decided to retire me. After I got online again and found out about this, the response that I got was that I needed to do the developer tests. I ask myself: WTF - is this the appreciation for all the hours I put into Gentoo that I get? Getting retired without even trying to find out what happened to me (1 mail, and then 1 to say I am being retired), and then when I get back in touch I have to spent my already limited time with bullsh@t. If this is how the new generation developers treats their fellows, I really cannot say that I give a damn.
See email to retirement CC azarah with details about trying to phone him during April 2007, and the lack of email responses. Azarah: It's really simple if you want to come back: Just pass the current set of quizzes that show you've kept up with Gentoo development in your apparent absence, and then recruiters can turn your account back on (We keep homedirs of retired devs for quite a long time, so it would be restored as it was Sept 1st 2007).
Martin! I don't know where you took the feeling we don't respect you or don't appreciate your contributions. We do! If you want to be a developer again, just do your quizzes (it's probably 30 minutes of work for you, if not less) and we will be glad to give you your access back. What's wrong with that? Would you rather Gentoo had procedures that allow people who were absent for a few years to get access back without even checking if they still remember anything about ebuilds? I think you wouldn't. It's fair deal and it's the same deal for everybody, no matter when the person joined or left the project. There's nothing humilating in this, other ancient and core devs coming back to Gentoo did them without even signalling they feel bad about this... I can name at least a few of those if you want me to. The current state is that you were absent for past two years (last commit July 2006) and like it or not, you have to follow the procedure and pass the quizzes. We'll be very glad to see you back in the project. So please reconsider and do the quizzes and I'll reassign the bug to recruiters for them to reinstate you right away. If you don't feel like rejoing right now, we will process the rest of your retirement. And we will be waiting for you to reopen the bug in the future stating you want to get back. Nobody is forcing you out, nobody also is feeling bad about you rejoining. It's your choice now. Like it always was. If you want to contribute to Gentoo, we will re-establish your access, if you don't, we will retire you hoping you will reconsider and decide to come back in future. You decide. :-) Kind regards, Łukasz Damentko
Martin, we need an answer here. Please write what your decision is.
Okay, another month has passed and we've got no answer whatsoever. Infra, please process Martin's retirement. Martin, if you ever wish to rejoin Gentoo, we will be happy to have you back. Just let us know.
