23:08 <@dsd_> Betelgeuse: file it anyway, if it isnt definitive enough i'll close it (but at least it is documented at that point) I have both optical S/PDIF out and in that I use every once in a while and haven't been able to get both of them working since my days with a libata git kernel: betelgeuse@pena /usr/src/libata/git $ git-describe v2.6.19-3060-ge61d5fd Nowadays I quite often get a crackling sound out of the digital out that goes away randomly. I think this might have something to do with CONFIG_MCORE2 because alsa wasn't able to even build before I patched it: https://bugtrack.alsa-project.org/alsa-bug/view.php?id=2961
sys-kernel/gentoo-sources-2.6.20-r4 in kernel alsa drivers are buggy as usual
If I remember right from our IRC conversation: gentoo-sources-2.6.19 and gentoo-sources-2.6.20 both have this bug. Did you test 2.6.21-rc5? Which sound chip do you have?
