Description Steve Herber 2007-03-23 18:49:08 UTC
I was building a computer with an nvidia card and was using the very clear Gentoo Linux nVidia Guide. In the testing section it asks you to use glxinfo and glxgears but it does not mention which package has those tools. A quick search of portage for glx names using eix did not turn up the answer.

I found this comment in the Nvidia how-to at http://gentoo-wiki.com/HOWTO_nVidia_Drivers:
If you get the message: "bash: glxinfo: command not found" do "emerge x11-apps/mesa-progs"

Reproducible: Always

Expected Results:
document emerge package for glxinfo and glxgears tool.

While the Gentoo wiki is crap 99% of the time, after doing some checking I verified your report. It is possible to somehow install nvidia-drivers without mesa-progs; that is, if you don't first follow our xorg-config guide (if you don't emerge xorg-x11). Emerging xorg-x11 will pull in mesa-progs for sure.

I'll add a bit about which package it comes from.

Fixed in CVS, thanks for reporting.
