Description Daniel Drake (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2007-03-21 21:10:01 UTC
To reproduce this bug:

Install splashutils-1.3.1
Clear genkernel cache
Build initramfs with genkernel with gensplash option
Attempt to boot from initramfs

The splash doesn't seem to appear as early as it should, and also the boot fails because it is trying to activate devfsd.

The reason that genkernel's linuxrc script tries to activate devfsd is because it tries to mount /sys but realises that fails (it is already mounted), and then decides that the system does not have udev support.

Is splash_helper crashing before it unmounts /sys?
