Hi, I have tried both 8.32.5 and 8.34.8 ati-drivers, but without any success. Module compiles and loads without any glitches, but after issuing startx the screen blanks and you have to use Ctrl+Alt+Del. Videocard is ATI Mobility Radeon X1400 on Dell Inspiron 6400 laptop - it is reported to work well and did work on Debian Etch before. Here is my emerge --info: Linux gentoo 2.6.19-gentoo-r5 #1 SMP Wed Mar 21 20:09:21 EET 2007 i686 Intel(R) Core(TM)2 CPU T7200 @ 2.00GHz GenuineIntel GNU/Linux Portage 2.1.2.2 with x86 keyword. I shall attach xorg.conf, kernel config and xorg log additionally. P.S. I did not forget to do `eselect opengl set ati`

Also I'd like to add that I've tried both internal and external agpgart, tried adding Option "ForceMonitors" "notv" and shm fs was mounted all the time - but it didn't make any difference, the error in xorg log was always the same. Unfortunately, without this driver I can not use my widescreen dislay :( Please advice.
This is an upstream bug which has been fixed in the latest (8.35.5) release.
(In reply to comment #5) > This is an upstream bug which has been fixed in the latest (8.35.5) release. Thanks! I shall wait for ebuild to appear and then report about success or not.
(In reply to comment #5) > This is an upstream bug which has been fixed in the latest (8.35.5) release. It didn't help. Did you notice unprintable characters in the end of xorg startup log? I am not sure what bug from 8.35.5 changelog you've meant, but this one must be something different.

I've got the very same problem on an ibm thinkpad t60 with ati mobility x1400 using driver version 8.40.4. Is this issue still not fixed?
try with 8.433
