Description Chris 2007-03-17 14:03:17 UTC
After starting skype-1.0.53-r1 as user and trying to call skype user skype connecting indefinitely. Problem doesn't occur as root user and in skype version 1.2.*. It's no firewall problem because older skype works with same skype configuration!
I tried already with artsdsp wrapper, same problem here.
Same problem with static skype version!
Problem was already discussed in thread specified by URL above, but no solution.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1.Start skype and log in
2.Choose skype user and press connect button

Actual Results:
Skype tries to connect indefinitely, chat also does not work, but skype logs in.

Expected Results:
Connecting to other users should be possible also with skype versions greater than version 1.2

This is not a support forum for binary-only stuff... So, what makes you believe it's a Gentoo bug?
Comment 2 Chris 2007-03-17 17:19:53 UTC
Because it seems to work for other people and there are no problems in other distributions. Skype does work as root and so i think it could possible be a access problem to some device. I found out playing the example files in skype configuration menu gives me no sound. So it's possible a sound problem. Or it could be a problem with dbus (what's the file '/etc/dbus-1/system.d/skype.conf' for ??).
Is there a possibility to find out there is a access problem to any device?

I don't like the Skype philosophy and skypes linux support (i want to say i hate it, Windows version 3 and Linux version 1.3). But there is no really good alternative until now. The best alternative to skype i think is OpenWengo, but the most people are using skype (most Windows users).

I think other people have the same problem, if there is no solution and nobody can help i have to use the old skype. Possible there will be a skype for linux without problems in 100 years (version 1.4) ;-)

Uhm? Quickly reading the forums thread, there are lots of people with this problem, out of which about two mention Gentoo?
