Description Matthew Swank 2003-03-09 00:01:56 UTC
Evolution needs gal-0.21 or above, and until 3/7 (at the lastest) there was an
unmasked ebuild satisfying this requirement After an 'emerge rsync' on 3/8 the
unmasked gal was down-graded to gal-0.20-r1, and the previously unmasked version
wasn't even in the portage tree any more. I found this out after an emerge -u
--world. Evolution can't even run with gal-0.20 loaded, and after emerge'ing
gal-0.23, I get the following message when evolution starts up:

"Cannot activate component OAFIID:GNOME_Evolution_Addressbook_ShellComponent:
The error from the activation system is: Child process did not give an error
messsage, unknown failure occured"

The main window for evolution comes up, but I can not open any child windows;
making it imposible to actually use the thing to send email.

Since Evolution 1.2.2 is unmasked, it would be nice to have an unmasked, stable
version of gal that actually works with it.

Comment 1 Matthew Swank 2003-03-09 00:06:27 UTC
"needs gal-0.21 or above" should read "needs gal-0.22 or above"
Comment 2 Nuno Araujo 2003-03-09 06:13:21 UTC
It also breaks gnucash and probably gtkhtml (see depedencies)!
It' also breaks dev-help, probably because of gtkhtml dependency...

when launched from the commande line evolution, gnucash and devhelp display a message saying that they didn't found libgal.so.21

Comment 3 Nuno Araujo 2003-03-09 06:17:46 UTC
Once gal-0.23 emerged gnucash and devhelp work fine, but evolution gives the symptoms explained by Matthew
Comment 4 Alastair Tse (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2003-03-09 07:11:44 UTC
alright. 0.22 got cleaned but 0.23 should be stable enough to be marked as stable now.

with OAFIID:GNOME_Evolution_Addressbook_ShellComponent error, try emerging evolution again and report if it fixes the problem.

oh spank me :) thought i really checked the keywords on the other versions :/
Comment 6 Matthew Swank 2003-03-09 14:11:20 UTC
You also might say it's a good idea to recompile everything that depends on gal, as I also had to remerge gtkhtml to get evolution to finally work.
