Description qeldroma 2007-03-16 07:34:30 UTC
After newly installing a gentoo-box on an HP proliant DL320 with tigon-NICs, i got this strange behavior:
The kernel-log proclaims that eth0 and eth1 are found and initialised.
But afterwards, they are not, what i found out after three painfull hours is, that eth2 and eth3 have been created?!?

Here's the log:
# dmesg|grep eth
eth0: Tigon3 [partno(N/A) rev 9003 PHY(5714)] (PCIX:133MHz:64-bit) 10/100/1000BaseT Ethernet 00:1a:4b:db:1b:72
eth0: RXcsums[1] LinkChgREG[0] MIirq[0] ASF[1] Split[0] WireSpeed[1] TSOcap[1]
eth0: dma_rwctrl[76148000] dma_mask[64-bit]
eth1: Tigon3 [partno(N/A) rev 9003 PHY(5714)] (PCIX:133MHz:64-bit) 10/100/1000BaseT Ethernet 00:1a:4b:db:1b:73
eth1: RXcsums[1] LinkChgREG[0] MIirq[0] ASF[0] Split[0] WireSpeed[1] TSOcap[1]
eth1: dma_rwctrl[76148000] dma_mask[64-bit]
tg3: eth3: Link is up at 100 Mbps, full duplex.
tg3: eth3: Flow control is off for TX and off for RX.
sesm2 ~ # ifconfig eth0 up
eth0: unknown interface: No such device
sesm2 ~ # cat /proc/net/dev

sesm2 ~ #

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Boot the system
2. Look in dmesg
3. try out the interfaces

Actual Results:
found eth2 and eth3

Expected Results:
eth0 and eth1 as shown in dmesg

Post the contents of /etc/udev/rules.d/70-persistent-net.rules here, and emerge -pv udev output as well.
