You can test using jsch tests in http://overlays.gentoo.org/proj/java/browser/testcases/dev-java/jsch
I don't know if the traffic is compressed by default so you might need to turn on some options etc.

You can find if jsch is using jzlib by running the tests after emerge -C jzlib.
