Aye
Comment 4 Michael Cummings (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2007-03-22 12:07:58 UTC
Agree. My screenrc includes the load average in a hardstatus line - be nice to see that number go down ;)

So that's 4GB, right? What does that take the box to?

(I agree no matter the answers above, as you probably already suspected.)

I agree too. I would like to ask infra to make some hardware policy though. Something that ensures we have good hardware makes the operation cheap in the long run (this includes quality, extensibility etc).

Mike and myself are confused by this comment. Can you clarify what exactly you want infra to do with developing a "hardware policy" ?

Comment 8 Paul de Vrieze (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2007-03-22 21:34:20 UTC
What I mean is some kind of idea on what kind of hardware you would buy when hardware needs to be bought. Something like the kind of suppliers. The kind of expansibility. The kind of quality. Things like that. It would be very helpful in deciding which machine will fill he need that must be served. This document can then after initial drafting be used to guide hardware purchases. It can further help in preventing lack of long term vision to cause repeated hardware failure.
Comment 9 Chris Gianelloni (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2007-03-22 21:40:38 UTC
As discussed on #-trustees, he wants to make sure we're buying good hardware from a reputable vendor and not assembling stuff ourselves or buying from non-name "cheap" vendors so we can have some assurance that the hardware will last.

Paul, trust me, nobody from Infra is going to complain if we ask them to only buy good hardware. ;]

Parts are ordered w/ rush processing and 2-day delivery so we can get them by the weekend.

Closing; purchase made some time ago
