Description nuitari 2007-03-11 16:40:52 UTC
After upgrading to Cups-1.2.8 from 1.2.7 I could no longer print to my Brother MFC-210C printer.

The print job would go through, got marked as successful then blissfully disappear without being printed.

Upon turning the debug level in cupsd.conf, the only noticible error was:

ESP "Unrecoverable error, exit code 1", in the error_log file.

I have tried the following:
Cycling power to the printer
Doing the # FEATURES=-collision-protect emerge -va1 $(qfile -qC /usr/lib/cups /etc/cups | sed "s:net-print/cups$::")
Reinstalling ghostscript-esp
Reinstalling the MFC-210C as per Brother's instructions.
Reconfiguring the printer in both kcontrol and CUPS' web interface
Rebooting

Only when I downgraded CUPS to 1.2.7 could I print again with my Brother printer.

The HP printer, using hplip, was not affected.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:

Comment 1 Stefan Schweizer (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2007-04-07 12:19:10 UTC
does it work with cups-1.2.10?

Maybe it is the fault of the driver - did you use an ebuild to install it?
Comment 2 nuitari 2007-05-12 05:43:19 UTC
Sorry I missed your comment.
I got a new MFC-440CN and it works now. It uses newer drivers from Brother so they might have fixed their problem.

Brother only gives binary rpms and deps for the driver, there are no ebuilds for them :(
Comment 3 Stefan Schweizer (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2007-05-12 08:08:05 UTC
rpms and debs can also be made into ebuilds :)

Not that hard to do. Anyway I will close this as WORKDFORME, because it works for you now. THanks
