Description Rajiv Aaron Manglani (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2003-03-07 02:25:57 UTC
when installing on the newest powerbooks (12", 17"), dev entries do not exist
for the internal hard drive. right before running yabootconfig, users will need to:

mount devfs -t devfs /dev

inside the chroot env.

also, the internal drive is hdc not hda. this is a hardware issue, not a kernel
problem.
Comment 1 Mark Guertin 2003-03-07 02:27:59 UTC
I think this applies to all the newer powerbook models (12, 15, 17") G4's
Comment 2 Lars Weiler (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2003-05-03 22:28:47 UTC
Is this still valid with the change of baselayout and the newest LiveCD?
Comment 3 Rajiv Aaron Manglani (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2003-06-10 00:59:28 UTC
ppc kernel folks please verify.

if the docs need to be updated, reassign to me.
thanks.
Comment 4 Luca Barbato gentoo-dev 2003-06-28 12:51:10 UTC
Please update the docs adding that as optional step.
Comment 5 Lars Weiler (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2003-06-28 12:56:12 UTC
First, Pieter, may you confirm this?

I heard yesterday in #gentoo-ppc that this is still an issue. /dev won't show more devices than /dev/hda. After bindmounting devfs there are all devices shown.

thnxs for reporting - rc8 will solve this. updated /linuxrc in the initrd
Comment 7 Pieter Van den Abeele (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2003-07-14 05:58:47 UTC
can you guys confirm if the rc8 livecds from my homedir on dev.gentoo.org have this issue fixed?
Comment 8 Pieter Van den Abeele (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2003-12-14 11:57:54 UTC
Looked at this again, latest livecd script has this fixed.

Also in combination with the newer kernels, who prefer ATA100 before 66, this issue is really fixed now, and no updates to docs should be needed.
