I've got a dual core Athlon64, and gnucash 2.0.4 and 2.0.5 were both failing to run. I finally traced this to recompiling guile for USE=regex, which also updated the "threads" use flag I'd enabled in the last month. Gnucash gave the backtrace below when run with --nofile. Recompiling with the threads flag disabled on guile now allows it to run. Don't know if it's a SMP problem, or an amd64 problem. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Sorry for not seeing the reply, I'd forgotten to add myself to the CC list. I've rebuilt guile and gnucash crashes again. I'm a bit busy right now to recompile gnucash again guile with debugging back on again - I'm assuming for a -r* release it's conclusive. Any further tests, I'll do them at the weekend?
guile-1.8.1-r3 has some patches which I believe may fix this problem. I really need you to test this version.
Sorry, I should have said in my previous comment that I rebuilt 1.8.1-r3 and gnucash crashes. In fact, rebuilt is probably the wrong word. What I was getting at is that I upgraded guile to that version (with +threads) and gnucash started crashing again. I can repeat this and recompile gnucash as well, if this is required.
ok good. I don't see how rebuilt and upgraded are different on a Gentoo system :) I haven't been able myself to compile gnucash-2.0.5 for guile-1.8.1-r3. Could you please confirm that you can by re-emerging gnucash-2.0.5.

Is this still a problem? I am using latest versions ( dev-scheme/guile-1.8.3-r1 and dev-scheme/slib-3.1.4-r4 and app-office/gnucash-2.2.1-r1 ) without problems. --nofile does not segfault.

I'm not sure what my problem is exactly yet, but I have been running gnucash on an amd64 for long time with no problems. I just got this today: gnucash-bin: error while loading shared libraries: libguile.so.12: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory According to genlop I had guile-1.6.8 from Jul 1 until Nov 15. I thought used it the other day, but guess haven't until today when started up gnucash and got that error. Doing a revdep-rebuild right now and see what happens. Getting a lot of: broken .... (requires libguile-ltdl.so.1 libguile.so.12) So going it going to Remerge: emerge --oneshot =dev-libs/g-wrap-1.9.6-r3 =app-office/gnucash-2.0.5 * Fails for the: guile must be built with "deprecated regex" use flags. Hate to put all this, but haven't emerged for awhile and guncash-2.0.5 and guile-1.6.8 worked fine until emerged Nov 15. I didn't think it was going to work. So while emerging I started gnucash in a terminal and it worked. So killed the remerge. No have working gnucash again with out a lot of unstables listed in post above. That I have to keep in mind if this happens again.

Closing this: gnucash must be reinstalled if the threads useflag of guile is toggled.
