I was building gcj-4.3 from the gcj-overlay. I noticed that if I removed mozilla-firefox-2.0.0.2 or downgraded to 1.5, the problem goes away. I see that other people in the forums have the same issue on ppc for different packages. ---------- emerge --info ---------- Portage 2.1.2-r13 (default-linux/ppc/ppc32/2006.0/G4, gcc-4.1.2, glibc-2.5-r0, 2.6.20 ppc) ================================================================= System uname: 2.6.20 ppc 7455, altivec supported Gentoo Base System release 1.12.9 Timestamp of tree: Fri, 02 Mar 2007 13:01:01 +0000 distcc 2.18.3 powerpc-unknown-linux-gnu (protocols 1 and 2) (default port 3632) [disabled] dev-java/java-config: 1.3.7, 2.0.31-r3 dev-lang/python: 2.4.4 dev-python/pycrypto: 2.0.1-r5 sys-apps/sandbox: 1.2.18.1 sys-devel/autoconf: 2.13, 2.61 sys-devel/automake: 1.4_p6, 1.5, 1.6.3, 1.7.9-r1, 1.8.5-r3, 1.9.6-r2, 1.10 sys-devel/binutils: 2.17 sys-devel/gcc-config: 1.3.14 sys-devel/libtool: 1.5.23b virtual/os-headers: 2.6.20-r1 ACCEPT_KEYWORDS="ppc ~ppc" AUTOCLEAN="yes" CBUILD="powerpc-unknown-linux-gnu" CFLAGS="-O -mcpu=G4 -maltivec -mabi=altivec -pipe -fno-strict-aliasing" CHOST="powerpc-unknown-linux-gnu" CONFIG_PROTECT="/etc /usr/kde/3.5/env /usr/kde/3.5/share/config /usr/kde/3.5/shutdown /usr/share/X11/xkb /usr/share/config" CONFIG_PROTECT_MASK="/etc/env.d /etc/env.d/java/ /etc/gconf /etc/java-config/vms/ /etc/revdep-rebuild /etc/terminfo /etc/texmf/web2c" CXXFLAGS="-O -mcpu=G4 -maltivec -mabi=altivec -pipe -fno-strict-aliasing" DISTDIR="/usr/portage/distfiles" FEATURES="autoconfig distlocks metadata-transfer parallel-fetch sandbox sfperms strict" GENTOO_MIRRORS="http://distfiles.gentoo.org http://distro.ibiblio.org/pub/linux/distributions/gentoo" LINGUAS="en_US en" MAKEOPTS="-j3" PKGDIR="/usr/portage/packages" PORTAGE_RSYNC_OPTS="--recursive --links --safe-links --perms --times --compress --force --whole-file --delete --delete-after --stats --timeout=180 --exclude=/distfiles --exclude=/local --exclude=/packages --filter=H_**/files/digest-*" PORTAGE_TMPDIR="/var/tmp" PORTDIR="/usr/portage" PORTDIR_OVERLAY="/usr/portage/local/layman/enlightenment /usr/portage/local/layman/xeffects /usr/local/portage /usr/local/overlays/migrated-java-experimental-overlay /usr/local/overlays/fixes /usr/local/overlays/gcj-overlay" SYNC="rsync://rsync.gentoo.org/gentoo-portage" USE="X alsa altivec apache2 apm berkdb bitmap-fonts bogofilter bonobo cairo cdr cli cracklib crypt cups dbus dri dvd dvdr eds emboss encode esd foomaticdb fortran gcj gdbm gif glitz gnome gpm gstreamer gtk gtkhtml hal iconv imlib ipv6 isdnlog jack java jpeg kde kdehiddenvisibility ldap libg++ libwww mad midi mikmod motif mozilla mp3 mpeg ncurses newspr nls nptl nptlonly ogg opengl pam pcre perl pertty png ppc pppd python qt qt3 qt4 quicktime readline reflection ruby sdl seamonkey session spell spl ssl svg tcpd tetex tiff truetype truetype-fonts type1-fonts unicode vorbis xcb xfs xml xorg xprint xulrunner xv zlib" ALSA_CARDS="powermac" ALSA_PCM_PLUGINS="adpcm alaw asym copy dmix dshare dsnoop empty extplug file hooks iec958 ioplug ladspa lfloat linear meter mulaw multi null plug rate route share shm softvol" ELIBC="glibc" INPUT_DEVICES="evdev keyboard mouse" KERNEL="linux" LCD_DEVICES="bayrad cfontz cfontz633 glk hd44780 lb216 lcdm001 mtxorb ncurses text" LINGUAS="en_US en" USERLAND="GNU" VIDEO_CARDS="ati radeon" Unset: CTARGET, EMERGE_DEFAULT_OPTS, INSTALL_MASK, LANG, LC_ALL, LDFLAGS, PORTAGE_RSYNC_EXTRA_OPTS Reproducible: Always For me the problem is trivial, but some have problems building gcc. Perhaps I should suggest they put -gcj in the USE flags ?
gcj-overlay is dead. Not sure whether this is still occurring within the tree but will take the opportunistic approach and close. If this issue still occurs please reopen with more info.
