Description Paolo Ornati 2007-02-27 08:47:21 UTC
Inserting and empty CD and trying to burn it with K3b (cdrecord) results in write errors and a CD to trow away ;)

What happens under KDE is that, almost immediately after writing starts, the write errors appear along with the "nice" KDE popup window "A new medium as been detected...".

Stopping "hald" solves the problem.

I don't know if is hald or something in KDE triggered by it that interfere with burning...

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:

My mainboard is an Intel DG965Gss.

The CD/DVD burner is a PATA LG HL-DT-ST DVDRAM GSA-4167B driven by the Marvell PATA driver (libata).

Relevant packages:

sys-apps/hal-0.5.7.1-r3
sys-apps/dbus-1.0.2
app-cdr/k3b-0.12.17
app-cdr/cdrtools-2.01.01_alpha10

kde 3.5.6

Another note: it doesn't happen with DVDs (growisofs - dvd+rw-tools-7.0).

The media notifier getting in the ways shouldn't be a problem with K3B 1.0, right!?

Ok, I cannot reproduce it with K3b 1.0 :)

I'm closing this.

Anyway I wonder what happens to others CD-burning apps or if I just start cdrecord from command line... I'll buy a RW CD to do some tests (I don't want to throw away others CDs :)
