ffmpeg changes it's interpretation of '-b' on the command line from kilobytes to bits (see: http://svn.mplayerhq.hu/ffmpeg/trunk/ffmpeg.c?revision=6288&view=markup), which causes mytharchive to create very low bitrate files when using ffmpeg-0.4.9_p20061016 and ffmpeg-0.4.9_p20070129. Mytharchive has been patched in svn to adjust, but it doesn't look like it's been backported to fixes (see: http://svn.mythtv.org/trac/changeset/11396). Reproducible: Didn't try
Forgot to mention that myth's patch in changeset 11396 linked above is reported to work with ffmpeg before and after the change.
Please submit a patch upstream to get this merged into release-0-20-fixes and provide a link here. Or see maybe Stuart will want to commit it.

Sorry for the delay. I see that you submitted a request for me upstream, and that I missed a merge to fixes that was already there. My sincere apologies for my mistake- I'll test with the latest in portage this evening to confirm if this is still an issue.
