Description Niels Muller Larsen 2007-02-22 12:19:05 UTC
When starting Lyx it immediately crashes with the only message "Segmentation fault".
Lyx was updated from V1.4.1 to V1.4.2 this week on my weekly emerge --sync; emerge --update --deep world. The compilation produced "a million warnings" about a wrong compiler version with a ref to gcc.hpp issued by boost.
Now I am at gcc V4.1.1 and it seems that the boost-system expects to compile lyx with a version <V4.0.
It is a disaster for me to be without Lyx.
Please advice!

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. qt has been compiled with the USE-flag qt3support
   the gcc is at V4.1.1
2. emerge lyx (compiles V1.4.2, boost is at 1.33.1-r1
3. lyx (and immediate seg fault)
   lyx -dbg (same result)
   lyx -v (same result)

Actual Results:
lyx crashes

Expected Results:
it should have worked ;-)

I have tried taking lyx out. Unmerged it. Then compiled in the traditional ./configure; make; make install procedure. The results were the same.
I have tried to "downgrade" to V1.4.1 but here I get the recently reported "ACCESS DENIED" bug.
I have tried to find a precompiled binary of lyx in order to try that, but I haven't found any.

Attach a backtrace and reopen then; hard to guess... ;)

Uh... Mixing gcc versions in this way won't exactly fly; see
http://www.gentoo.org/doc/en/gcc-upgrading.xml on hints how to upgrade your GCC properly.
