Description Hans Halvorson 2007-02-21 19:34:02 UTC
I compiled ieee80211 as a module for the kernel (2.16.8). Upon rebooting, I received error messages terminating in:

ieee80211_process_probe_response+0x5bf/0x10f0
kernel panic

After I changed RC_COLDPLUG from "yes" to "no", the error stopped happening, and I was able to insert ieee80211 manually by modprobe. (I can also put ieee80211 in /etc/modules.autoload.d/kernel-2.6 and no error occurs.)

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Recompile kernel with ieee80211 as a module (or just compile it into the kernel)
2. Set RC_COLDPLUG="yes"
3. Boot

Actual Results:
kernel panic

Expected Results:
Computer boots to login prompt

# emerge --info

No, udev doesn't cause kernel panic, your ieee80211 module does; try with 2.6.20 and report back. If you still have problems, you'll need to post more that one line.
