emerge --info please. Also, is is reproducible at *exactly* the same place?
Comment 2 Santiago Gala 2007-02-21 07:21:38 UTC
My info. I'm trying again and will report the error soon. But I don't think gcc manages to find new machine registers in my processor between yesterday and today :)

Comment 3 Santiago Gala 2007-02-21 08:31:57 UTC
As I imagined, my processor didn't grow new registers or the compiler new allocation strategies overnight.

Looks like upstream, though it could be related with the fact that I use boost for STLport (but nothing in the ebuild bails about it).

Comment 4 Santiago Gala 2007-02-21 08:33:16 UTC
with upstream I mean gcc upstream, as it is a compiler internal error.
Comment 5 Santiago Gala 2007-02-21 08:56:20 UTC
Nope, the function giving the error is full of dirty tricky register hackery, so it is quite sure a problem with the implementation for (some) x86_64 processors.
Comment 7 Santiago Gala 2007-02-21 22:20:51 UTC
Both patches fail to apply against the ebuild as unpacked :(
Comment 8 Santiago Gala 2007-02-22 07:28:57 UTC
Not just that, but the patches Hanno quotes are labelled as:

64bit-bridges-2.diff 8861 5 days jholesovsky Cosmetic change.
64bit-bridges.diff 8743 13 days jholesovsky Indentation fix.

("cosmetic change" and "indentation fix" does not look much like a solution here)
Comment 9 Hanno Zysik (geki) 2007-02-22 10:29:14 UTC
They do fix, already tested and verified. ;)
That what you, another one on SuSE with gcc-4.1.0 and Caolan, RedHat developer, with RedHat gcc-4.1.1 got seems more a gcc bug. Though, that -2.diff fixes their error. I and either Jan Holesovsky, for example, cannot reproduce this error with Gentoos gcc-4.1.1, which is nearly vanilla, or SuSE gcc-4.1.1.

I will test my next openoffice build with gcc-4.1.2 and without that -2.diff.

you may run the testcase from [1] to see if it is that.
(With the failing gcc command from openoffice build.)

Comment 10 Hanno Zysik (geki) 2007-02-22 11:46:56 UTC
uno2cpp.cxx is optimized here, yours not. Does it compile if you add your CFLAGS after '-pipe' in your gcc command?

Didn't try your approach. Instead, I substituted the current uno2cpp.cxx file by

http://udk.openoffice.org/source/browse/udk/bridges/source/cpp_uno/gcc3_linux_x86-64/uno2cpp.cxx

the last version, 1.7.22.4, and continued the ebuild. It finalized, and it seems to work the same as previously (only noticeable bug is a trend to crash on exit, not on document close, like 50% of times, related specially with having used ppt or odp documents)

I forgot to repeat that I couldn't apply the patches you said because they were failing even with --ignore-whitespace, and the "cosmetic" one covered most of the file, so I just substituted the file by the most recent CVS version and it worked.

The gcc problem you quote is not giving the error here, at all.

So, workaround: "unpack" the ebuild, substitute the expanded file by:

http://udk.openoffice.org/source/browse/udk/bridges/source/cpp_uno/gcc3_linux_x86-64/uno2cpp.cxx?rev=1.7.22.4&view=markup

and "compile install qmerge clean". Works, apparently.

@Santiago: Is this still an issue?

No, that was solved long ago, further, 2.1.0.5 is not even current ebuild anymore
