I first got this problem when trying to install media-gfx/imagemagick-6.3.0.5. The ebuild fails with this error: Can't locate object method "reinit" via package "Pod::Man" at /usr/lib/perl5/5.8.8/Pod/Man.pm line 1222. I get the same error now with a number of packages, such as: dev-perl/DBI-1.50, net-analyzer/rrdtool-1.2.15-r3, perl-core/PodParser-1.32, perl-core/Test-Harness-2.56 I have tried re-emerging everything perl, and especially Pod-Simple, to no effect. A number of packages fail to re-emerge with the same error. revdep-rebuild is clean. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. emerge -av imagemagick Actual Results: error: /bin/sh ./libtool --silent --tag=CC --mode=link i686-pc-linux-gnu-gcc -march=nocona -O2 -pipe -fomit-frame-pointer -Wall -W -pthread -lfreetype -lz -o coders/art.la -rpath /usr/lib/ImageMagick-6.3.0/modules-Q16/coders -no-undefined -module -avoid-version coders/coders_art_la-art.lo magick/libMagick.la chmod 755 blib/arch/auto/Image/Magick/Magick.so Can't locate object method "reinit" via package "Pod::Man" at /usr/lib/perl5/5.8.8/Pod/Man.pm line 1222. Hmm. I re-emerged dev-lang/perl again, and now everything compiles cleanly. Problem was behind the keyboard apparently :-)
