Description thomasb-gentoo-bugs 2003-03-03 16:09:13 UTC
I invoke some agettys on my Ultra 1 running Gentoo:

(thomasb@coffin ~ 104/0) % grep vc /etc/inittab
c1:12345:respawn:/sbin/agetty 38400 vc/0 linux
c2:12345:respawn:/sbin/agetty 38400 vc/1 linux
c3:12345:respawn:/sbin/agetty 38400 vc/2 linux
c4:12345:respawn:/sbin/agetty 38400 vc/3 linux
c5:12345:respawn:/sbin/agetty 38400 vc/4 linux
c6:12345:respawn:/sbin/agetty 38400 vc/5 linux

I see the agettys on all virtual consoles. When I log in, I get a shell prompt.
After some seconds, the shell prompt gets overwritten with "coffin.dawnlink.net
login:". When I press "enter", the shell prompt appears again.

This happens on all virtual consoles and is quite enerving. Haven't found a
solution for this problem (using Google and #gentoo-sparc).

Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1.
2.
3.

using sys-apps/util-linux version 2.11y

Hi Dawn,

One thing I forgot to ask you yesterday, did the logs show anything that might correspond to this?

Did the default values of ttyx not work for you? Just trying to understand why you changed the entries to vc/x from ttyx.

Are you still experiencing this problem?

I tried changing my /etc/inittab to match yours, and when I do I cannot even login. I would suggest changing your vc/x values to ttyx+1 (i.e. vc/0 = tty1) and using that. if this for some odd reason isn't feasable then feel free to re-open the case.
