Can you access http://www.gentoo.org/proj/en/overlays/layman-global.txt from the same machine using a normal browser?

Yes. It downloads from Firefox.

Also the sync works fine from another machine on my network. No parse errors.

Both machines use the same version, big difference between them is, one is a P4 (which has the error), and the other machine is an Athlon XP.

OK. Hmm. Thanks for the input.
Both machines are directed to use my local proxy server.
I changed the one which had the error to not use the proxy, and it worked.
The one which had no issue continues to use the proxy just fine.

Proxy support was fixed in layman-1.0.99. Please reopen if the problem persists with that version.

Sorry to bother again. Just wanted to clarify.
1.0.99?
There are only two versions present in portage. 1.0.9, and 1.0.10.
Do you mean 1.0.9?

http://sources.gentoo.org/viewcvs.py/gentoo-x86/app-portage/layman/

Please wait for your local mirror to catch on to cvs ;)
