I'd like to configure in mozilla-firefox-2.0.0.1-r4 which Plugin should be used to handle a certain MIME-Type. For this, the "Download Actions" dialog reachable under Edit -> Preferences -> Content -> File Types -> Manage is to be used. When I use mozilla-firefox-2.0.0.1-r4 on ~x86 and go to this dialog, it's virtually empty; please see the screenshot at http://www.myimg.de/?img=BildschirmfotoDownloadAct42e.png (I'll also attach it; it'll be the 1st attachment). But when I use Firefox 2.0.0.1 from Mozilla.com, the list is populated; screenshot: http://www.myimg.de/?img=BildschirmfotoDownloadAct2b8.png (2nd attachment). When I go to the address about:plugins, I see: http://alexander.skwar.name/~askwar/stuff/About_Plug-ins.html (or http://www.myimg.de/?img=AboutPlugins734.png and also 3rd attachment, a screenshot showing the complete list). What's happening there? alexander@blatt ~ $ emerge --info Portage 2.1.2-r9 (default-linux/x86/2006.1, gcc-4.1.2, glibc-2.5-r0, 2.6.19-suspend2-r2.045 i686) ================================================================= System uname: 2.6.19-suspend2-r2.045 i686 Intel(R) Celeron(R) M processor 1.50GHz Gentoo Base System version 1.12.9 Timestamp of tree: Sun, 18 Feb 2007 09:20:01 +0000 ccache version 2.4 [enabled] dev-java/java-config: 1.3.7, 2.0.31-r3 dev-lang/python: 2.4.4 dev-python/pycrypto: 2.0.1-r5 dev-util/ccache: 2.4-r6 sys-apps/sandbox: 1.2.18.1 sys-devel/autoconf: 2.13, 2.61 sys-devel/automake: 1.4_p6, 1.5, 1.6.3, 1.7.9-r1, 1.8.5-r3, 1.9.6-r2, 1.10 sys-devel/binutils: 2.17 sys-devel/gcc-config: 1.3.14 sys-devel/libtool: 1.5.22 virtual/os-headers: 2.6.20 ACCEPT_KEYWORDS="x86 ~x86" AUTOCLEAN="yes" CBUILD="i686-pc-linux-gnu" CFLAGS="-O2 -mtune=pentium-m -pipe -fomit-frame-pointer" CHOST="i686-pc-linux-gnu" CONFIG_PROTECT="/etc /usr/kde/3.5/env /usr/kde/3.5/share/config /usr/kde/3.5/shutdown /usr/share/X11/xkb /usr/share/config" CONFIG_PROTECT_MASK="/etc/env.d /etc/env.d/java/ /etc/gconf /etc/java-config/vms/ /etc/revdep-rebuild /etc/terminfo" CXXFLAGS="-O2 -mtune=pentium-m -pipe -fomit-frame-pointer" DISTDIR="/Gentoo/Portage/distfiles" EMERGE_DEFAULT_OPTS="--alphabetical" FEATURES="autoconfig ccache collision-protect distlocks metadata-transfer sandbox sfperms strict" GENTOO_MIRRORS=" http://ftp-stud.fht-esslingen.de/pub/Mirrors/gentoo/ ftp://ftp.tu-clausthal.de/pub/linux/gentoo/ http://distro.ibiblio.org/pub/linux/distributions/gentoo/ ftp://distro.ibiblio.org/pub/linux/distributions/gentoo http://distfiles.gentoo.org/ " LANG="de_DE.UTF-8" LINGUAS="de" PKGDIR="/Gentoo/Portage/packages" PORTAGE_RSYNC_OPTS="--recursive --links --safe-links --perms --times --compress --force --whole-file --delete --delete-after --stats --timeout=180 --exclude=/distfiles --exclude=/local --exclude=/packages" PORTAGE_TMPDIR="/Gentoo/Portage/build" PORTDIR="/Gentoo/Portage/tree" PORTDIR_OVERLAY="/Gentoo/Portage/local-tree/misc" SYNC="rsync://rsync.de.gentoo.org/gentoo-portage" USE="alsa berkdb bitmap-fonts cli cracklib crypt dlloader dri esd fortran gdbm gnome gstreamer hal iconv isdnlog kdeenablefinal kdehiddenvisibility libedit libg++ libnotify midi ncurses nls nptl nptlonly pcre perl ppds pppd python readline reflection session spl ssl tcpd truetype-fonts type1-fonts unicode x86 xorg zlib" ALSA_CARDS="loopback usb-audio via82xx" ALSA_PCM_PLUGINS="adpcm alaw asym copy dmix dshare dsnoop empty extplug file hooks iec958 ioplug ladspa lfloat linear meter mulaw multi null plug rate route share shm softvol" ELIBC="glibc" INPUT_DEVICES="evdev keyboard mouse" KERNEL="linux" LCD_DEVICES="bayrad cfontz cfontz633 glk hd44780 lb216 lcdm001 mtxorb ncurses text" LINGUAS="de" USERLAND="GNU" VIDEO_CARDS="fbdev vesa vga via" Unset: CTARGET, INSTALL_MASK, LC_ALL, LDFLAGS, MAKEOPTS, PORTAGE_RSYNC_EXTRA_OPTS

I noticed, that I messed up the order and URLs of the screenshots in my initial comment. My bad :( The "Description" of the attachments is correct, though. Please only refer to the descriptions. Sorry for the confusion.
BTW: This might somehow be related to upstream bug https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=19118 Interesting is, that I only have this issue with the Gentoo Firefox/Bon Echo; NOT with the Mozilla.com Firefox. I built mozilla-firefox-2.0.0.1-r4 with the following flags: askwar@hetzner ~/stuff $ emerge -vpt mozilla-firefox These are the packages that would be merged, in reverse order: Calculating dependencies... done! [ebuild R ] www-client/mozilla-firefox-2.0.0.1-r4 USE="-debug -filepicker -gnome -ipv6 -java -mozbranding -mozdevelop -moznopango -restrict-javascript -xforms -xinerama -xprint" LINGUAS="-ar -bg -ca -cs -da de -el -en_GB -es -es_AR -es_ES -eu -fi -fr -fy -fy_NL -ga -ga_IE -gu -gu_IN -he -hu -it -ja -ka -ko -ku -lt -mk -mn -nb -nb_NO -nl -nn -nn_NO -pa -pa_IN -pl -pt -pt_BR -pt_PT -ru -sk -sl -sv -sv_SE -tr -zh -zh_CN -zh_TW" 0 kB Total: 1 package (1 reinstall), Size of downloads: 0 kB
Today is not my day :( I posted the USE flags from a wrong machine... :(( The correct flags are: [ebuild R ] www-client/mozilla-firefox-2.0.0.1-r4 USE="-debug -filepicker gnome -ipv6 java -mozbranding -mozdevelop -moznopango -restrict-javascript -xforms -xinerama -xprint" LINGUAS="-ar -bg -ca -cs -da de -el -en_GB -es -es_AR -es_ES -eu -fi -fr -fy -fy_NL -ga -ga_IE -gu -gu_IN -he -hu -it -ja -ka -ko -ku -lt -mk -mn -nb -nb_NO -nl -nn -nn_NO -pa -pa_IN -pl -pt -pt_BR -pt_PT -ru -sk -sl -sv -sv_SE -tr -zh -zh_CN -zh_TW" 0 kB Difference: "gnome" and "java" are enabled; in the previous post in comment #5, nothing was enabled. It's not related to installed extensions, though. I just created a new profile in Firefox with the Firefox ProfileManager and it exhibits the same mis-behaviour.
I don't get it. In the screenshot from the firefox of mozilla.com i see the list empty, but in the gentoo screenshot i see the it with 4 lines. You said the one from gentoo's is empty, i don't see that on the screenshots. Maybe i'm missing something? I'm looking at the attached screenshots. Unless you have messed them again...
(In reply to comment #7) > I don't get it. In the screenshot from the firefox of mozilla.com i see the > list empty, but in the gentoo screenshot i see the it with 4 lines. Yep. _Only_ 4 lines. Compare that to the about:plugins output. Anyway, it has to have the same amount MIME-Types, no matter what version of firefox is used, as long as MOZ_PLUGIN_DIR is set to the same directory. > You said the one from gentoo's is empty, i don't see that on the screenshots. Look closer ;) As you can see on the Gentoo screenshot, a LOT of MIME-Types are missing in the "Download-Actions" dialog. Why? > Maybe i'm missing something? Yep :) You missed to cross-reference the about:plugins (http://alexander.skwar.name/~askwar/stuff/About_Plug-ins.html , http://www.myimg.de/?img=AboutPlugins734.png or attachment (id=110607) from comment #3). > I'm looking at the attached screenshots. Unless > you have messed them again... Nope. The screenshots are right and show the broken behaviour. Expected behaviour: If the same plugins are used, Mozilla.com's Firefox and the Gentoo Firefox should show the same amount of MIME-Types. As shown in the screenshots, this is not the case.
Any progress? I just finished installing a new machine and Bon Echo aka. Firefox exhibits the same behaviour. Ie. in the MIME Type selection, there's nothing (or at least not enough) to chose from (as shown on the previously attached screenshots).
Problem exists with Firefox 2.0.0.2 as well - changing summary accordingly.
I'm seeing an empty list on gentoo with 2.0.0.3 also. It would be nice to see something like http://bugs.gentoo.org/attachment.cgi?id=110604
(In reply to comment #11) > I'm seeing an empty list on gentoo with 2.0.0.3 also. Yep. Problem still exists in 2.0.0.3. Did someone from Gentoo already have a look at the bug? Yeah, i have been looking into this but couldn't find a solution. What packages you have installed for that?

I've got installed: - net-www/netscape-flash-9.0.31.0 - dev-java/sun-jdk-1.6.0-r1 - media-video/vlc-0.8.6_p18636 - media-video/totem-2.16.5 - media-video/realplayer-10.0.8-r2 On my new installation, I haven't got as much in the plugin list. There's just one entry (see attached screenshot).
According to the screenshots, you're using mozplugger and mplayerplug-in, no?
Created attachment 114600 [details] "Download-Aktionen" dialog in MOZILLA Firefox 2.0.0.3 (In reply to comment #16) > According to the screenshots, you're using mozplugger and mplayerplug-in, no? No more. Not in the new installation. But also in this new installation, the Gentoo firefox doesn't behave correctly. Can you reproduce the issue? The attached screenshot shows the "Download-Aktionen" in the Firefox 2.0.0.3 I just downloaded from http://mozilla.com/. As you can see, there's more stuff shown. This should not be the case. It should be, that the same amount of options is shown; ie. Gentoo and Mozilla firefox should show the same amount of options.

Created attachment 114601 [details] about:plugins of Firefox 2.0.0.3 This is a new screenshot showing about:plugins. It's taken from the Mozilla Firefox 2.0.0.3, but the same amount of plugins is shown in Gentoo Firefox 2.0.0.3.
I just installed vlc with nsplugin USE-flag enabled and my firefox detects the video files for vlc. However, if i use the binary from mozilla.com, it shows up in blank. So no, i can't reproduce it. You have vlc with nsplugin USE-flag enabled?
(In reply to comment #20) > I just installed vlc with nsplugin USE-flag enabled and my firefox detects the > video files for vlc. What do you mean with that? What's shown in the Download-Aktionen dialog (see comment #1)? We're only talking about that, not about Firefox actually supporting the plugin, which works quite fine (if not, I would have mentioned that and would not have posted the about:plugins screenshots). > However, if i use the binary from mozilla.com, it shows up > in blank. Does it use the plugin? Have you set the plugin directory env. variable correctly (see comment #8)? > So no, i can't reproduce it. What did you test? > You have vlc with nsplugin USE-flag enabled? How else would I get the plugin? ;)

Yes, that's what i am talking about. Edit -> Prefs -> Content -> File types -> Manage. What shows up: http://www.myimg.de/?img=snapshot2da9.png > > However, if i use the binary from mozilla.com, it shows up > > in blank. > > Does it use the plugin? Have you set the plugin directory env. variable > correctly (see comment #8)? Uh, i didn't know i had to copy the plugins or set a dir. I copied the plugins to the firefox dir of the binary firefox from mozilla.com, and the thing still shows like in the screenshot i posted. > > So no, i can't reproduce it. > > What did you test? Now both binary and Gentoo's firefox show the same actions. > > You have vlc with nsplugin USE-flag enabled? > > How else would I get the plugin? ;) > Indeed So, going back to the bug. You said your Gentoo firefox list was empty. I can't reproduce that with vlc installed, it shows up.
If I go to about:config and set browser.download.hide_plugins_without_extensions to false (default is true), then the plugin file types appear, all with extension (NONE). But why do they not have a filename extension associated with them? I don't have vlc installed but I do have gnash-0.7.2 which lists swf as suffixes in about:plugins and mplayeplug-in-3.35 which lists divx suffixes as well as many others.

You said your Gentoo firefox list was empty. Yep. > I can't > reproduce that with vlc installed, it shows up. Interesting. I've got the same buggy behaviour on 2 installations of Gentoo. They don't have much in common. Why do I have this bug on all of the installations while you don't have it? Strange.
(In reply to comment #23) > If I go to about:config and set > browser.download.hide_plugins_without_extensions to false (default is true), > then the plugin file types appear, all with extension (NONE). Same here. In the Mozilla.com Firefox, I don't have to set this. And when I set it in the Gentoo Firefox, the only entry WITH a extension is (for me) SPL. In the Mozilla.com Firefox, I see a lot of other entries (compare attachment (id=114599) with attachment (id=114600)). So enabling this setting is *NOT* a workaround, as there are still extensions missing. Raúl: Does your build environment differ very much from mine? Any ideas? Which patches can be easily removed, so that it is still possible to build firefox using the Gentoo ebuild/emerge process?
When I use www-client/mozilla-firefox-bin-2.0.0.3, the behaviour is as expected, ie. there are a lot of entries in the "Download-Aktionen" dialog, as shown on attachment (id=114600) (to be honest, I expected this).
Use this patchset: http://dev.gentooexperimental.org/~armin76/dist/mozilla-firefox-2.0.0.2-patches-1.1.tar.bz2
(In reply to comment #28) > Use this patchset: > http://dev.gentooexperimental.org/~armin76/dist/mozilla-firefox-2.0.0.2-patches-1.1.tar.bz2 > With this patchset, I get all of the MIME types shown in the Download-Aktionen dialog. So it is one of those patches. To re-enable, I'd simply copy one of the patches, create a tar.bz2 file, re-digest and build again, wouldn't I?
(In reply to comment #29) If you were so kind :)
Uh..btw, you're using gnome right? I think the patch is causing trouble is: 031_firefox-1.1-uriloader-1.patch
Yes, I am using gnome. And yes, when I build Firefox with the 0.6 patchset, but WITHOUT the 031 uriloader patch, then I get a full list in the Download-Aktionen dialog.
(In reply to comment #32) Hrm..can you try with this one? http://mirror.eas.muohio.edu/fedora/linux/core/development/i386/os/Fedora/firefox-2.0.0.3-2.fc7.i386.rpm The patch causing the trouble is from Fedora. And they still apply it. See if with that rpm still have a problem. Use rpm2targz to convert it to a tar.gz file. Then go into the usr/lib/firefox-2.0.0.3 after extracting it, and execute: PATH="/home/armin/tmp/usr/lib/firefox-2.0.0.3/" LD_LIBRARY_PATH="/home/armin/tmp/usr/lib/firefox-2.0.0.3/" firefox-bin , replacing with your paths. Copy the plugins too, obviously :)
Using the Fedora Firefox, I also don't get a full list. Just 1 entry, as it is in the ""Download-Aktionen" dialog in Gentoo Fx 2.0.0.3" attachment.
Okay, patch removed. Let's hope it doesn't make any new bugs.
Fine. What did this patch fix/add anyway?
Dunno, have a look at: http://cvs.fedora.redhat.com/viewcvs/devel/firefox/firefox-1.1-uriloader.patch?rev=1.2&view=log
