I have compiled Quixote 1.2 (not existing in portage O_o) on my amd64 box without any issues. Big serios web application also works fine on top of it.
Quixote 2.4 also compiles without any ploblem and a few simple applications works with it.

Uhm, if you want the package to get updated, file a new bug for the maintainers, please. This bug was about getting the ~amd64 keyword and will remain closed.
