i think it's better to support both kernel >=2.6.18 and 2.6.16 because the vanilla kernel developers release the stable kernel under 2.6.16 tree Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1.emerge ipw3945 2. 3. i think this bug is different than 137808 because when i try to compile ipw3945 it parse correcly my version of kernel (2.6.16.40) then it raise an error because this package support only kernel > 2.6.18 and my request is to support kernel 2.6.16.x thanks for your help amedeo
Shrug... It's really all the same thing, doesn't work properly w/ a.b.c.d versions, been broken for quite some time.

What Jakub said. ipw3945 isn't working properly with the in-tree ieee80211, so we decided to switch to the in-kernel ieee80211. Which seems to be working great so far, but you'll have to use something newer than 2.6.17.
> great so far, but you'll have to use something newer than 2.6.17. this mean that i must use kernel newer than 2.6.17? and there aren't program to support linux stable kernel (now 2.6.16)?
