I decided to use lilo instead of grub. This was my first experience with lilo and didn't know where to find lilo.conf I ended up doing a google search to find it was located in /etc/lilo.conf i think this should in the docs, just replace lilo.conf with /etc/lilo.conf Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. read the docs 2. install lilo 3. get confused about lilo.conf Actual Results: i didn't know where to find lilo.conf Expected Results: should say /etc/lilo.conf
I concur.
Ok, most config files are in /etc, right ? Lilo install /etc/lilo.conf.example ... If you really tried to find it: 1) and tried the default of # vim /etc/lilo<tab> it would have filled in '/etc/lilo.conf.example' 2) updatedb; locate lilo.conf would give you: ----------------------------------- # locate lilo.conf /etc/lilo.conf.example /usr/share/man/man5/lilo.conf.5.gz # ----------------------------------- 3) the first lines of 'man lilo.conf' reads: ----------------------------------- NAME lilo.conf - configuration file for lilo DESCRIPTION This file, by default /etc/lilo.conf, is read by the boot loader installer 'lilo' (see lilo(8)). ----------------------------------- 4) 'man lilo' gives on a search for lilo.conf: ----------------------------------- -C config-file lilo reads its instructions about what files to map from the specified configuration file. This option overrides the use of the default config file, /etc/lilo.conf. ----------------------------------- I thus really do not see the issue, as it is covered in the standard RTFM, namely the man pages, and there are even an example config file. Above is only one of a few ways to find the info locally, and really, if none of those was taken, the user have more problems then he can imagine. Closing this as I am sure the docs-team have too much work on thier hands already.
