Today, I updgraded my alsa-driver package on AMD64. Before I have the alsa-driver 1.0.13. Whit this new update, the alsa-driver 1.0.14-rc1 is installing. With this new installation, my sound is wierd. Now when I use a software with sound, like mplayer or vlc, the sound begin on first note and repeat it forever. I can't hear this sound normaly. If I downgrade to alsa-driver 1.0.13, the sound is again normal. In my dmesg out, I have : Feb 12 22:49:28 hello ALSA /var/tmp/portage/media-sound/alsa-driver-1.0.14_rc1/work/alsa-driver-1.0.14rc1/pci/hda/../../alsa-kernel/pci/hda/hda_intel.c:556: hda_intel: azx_get_response timeout, switching to polling mode... Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. emerge -u alsa-driver 2. alsaconf 3. mplayer xxx or vlc xxx Actual Results: I downgrade alsa-driver to version 1.0.13 My emerge --info is : hello ~ # emerge --info Portage 2.1.2-r9 (default-linux/amd64/2006.1, gcc-4.1.1, glibc-2.5-r0, 2.6.18-gentoo-r6 x86_64) ================================================================= System uname: 2.6.18-gentoo-r6 x86_64 AMD Athlon(tm) 64 Processor 3500+ Gentoo Base System release 1.12.8 Timestamp of tree: Mon, 12 Feb 2007 20:59:01 +0000 dev-java/java-config: 1.3.7, 2.0.31 dev-lang/python: 2.4.3-r4 dev-python/pycrypto: 2.0.1-r5 sys-apps/sandbox: 1.2.17 sys-devel/autoconf: 2.13, 2.61 sys-devel/automake: 1.4_p6, 1.5, 1.6.3, 1.7.9-r1, 1.8.5-r3, 1.9.6-r2, 1.10 sys-devel/binutils: 2.16.1-r3 sys-devel/gcc-config: 1.3.14 sys-devel/libtool: 1.5.22 virtual/os-headers: 2.6.17-r1 ACCEPT_KEYWORDS="amd64" AUTOCLEAN="yes" CBUILD="x86_64-pc-linux-gnu" CFLAGS="-Os -pipe -march=athlon64" CHOST="x86_64-pc-linux-gnu" CONFIG_PROTECT="/etc /usr/kde/3.5/env /usr/kde/3.5/share/config /usr/kde/3.5/shutdown /usr/share/X11/xkb /usr/share/config" CONFIG_PROTECT_MASK="/etc/env.d /etc/env.d/java/ /etc/gconf /etc/java-config/vms/ /etc/revdep-rebuild /etc/terminfo" CXXFLAGS="-Os -pipe -march=athlon64" DISTDIR="/usr/portage/distfiles" FEATURES="autoconfig distlocks metadata-transfer sandbox sfperms strict" GENTOO_MIRRORS=" ftp://ftp.free.fr/mirrors/ftp.gentoo.org/ http://gentoo.modulix.net/gentoo/ http://ftp.club-internet.fr/pub/mirrors/gentoo ftp://gentoo.imj.fr/pub/gentoo/" LANG="fr_FR.UTF-8" LINGUAS="fr" MAKEOPTS="-j2" PKGDIR="/usr/portage/packages" PORTAGE_RSYNC_OPTS="--recursive --links --safe-links --perms --times --compress --force --whole-file --delete --delete-after --stats --timeout=180 --exclude=/distfiles --exclude=/local --exclude=/packages" PORTAGE_TMPDIR="/var/tmp" PORTDIR="/usr/portage" SYNC="rsync://rsync.gentoo.org/gentoo-portage" USE="X alsa amd64 bash-completion berkdb bitmap-fonts cdr cli cracklib crypt dbus dlloader dri dvd dvdr encode fortran gdbm gpm hal iconv ipv6 isdnlog java jpeg libg++ libnotify matrox midi msn ncurses nls nptl nptlonly opengl pam pcre perl png ppds pppd python readline reflection ruby session spell spl sqlite ssl symlink tcpd truetype truetype-fonts type1-fonts unicode xgetdefault xorg xv xvid zlib" ALSA_CARDS="hda-intel" ALSA_PCM_PLUGINS="adpcm alaw asym copy dmix dshare dsnoop empty extplug file hooks iec958 ioplug ladspa lfloat linear meter mulaw multi null plug rate route share shm softvol" ELIBC="glibc" INPUT_DEVICES="keyboard mouse evdev" KERNEL="linux" LCD_DEVICES="bayrad cfontz cfontz633 glk hd44780 lb216 lcdm001 mtxorb ncurses text" LINGUAS="fr" USERLAND="GNU" VIDEO_CARDS="nvidia vesa fbdev" Unset: CTARGET, EMERGE_DEFAULT_OPTS, INSTALL_MASK, LC_ALL, LDFLAGS, PORTAGE_RSYNC_EXTRA_OPTS, PORTDIR_OVERLAY
I test too the package media-sound/alsa-driver 1.0.14_rc2_p3234 in ~AMD64 and I have the same problem.
I'm afraid HDA driver is providing more problems than anything else lately. Please report this upstream, as they should be the ones fixing it.
