Description Matt Taylor 2003-03-01 16:57:05 UTC
I just emerged xfree-4.3 last night and I had 85 files to update. All of them
were files that I never changed like /etc/X11/xkb/* and other things in /etc/X11
that I deffinatly would want updated for the new X. I would like there to be a
option to update all the files at once without having to pick each file, pick 1
to use update, answer yes to overwrite, go on to next file 85 times.

yes I could export CONFIG_PROTECT="" before emerging, but I dont know what conf
files will be updated before the merge so that could clobber files I dont want
changed.

Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1. emerge xfree
2. etc-update
3. hit enter, 1, y, enter 85 times

Actual Results:
my hand hurt :-)

Expected Results:
in the menu to pick which file to update offer a option like "press A to use all
updates or press S to skip all updates"

# emerge info

Comment 1 SpanKY gentoo-dev 2003-03-01 17:45:22 UTC
CONFIG_PROTECT_MASK="/etc/X11/xkb" etc-update

that'll merge all the files for you
Comment 2 Nicholas Jones (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2003-03-02 10:05:37 UTC
or you could try dispatch-conf
Comment 3 Matt Taylor 2003-03-09 22:08:17 UTC
I just tried dispatch-conf after emergeing snort and I didn't see any option to supercede all. I sitll have to hit q then s for each file. It's less keypresses than etc-update but I still have to do through each file.

I ended up exporting CONFIG_PROTECT_MASK like SpanKY said.
Comment 4 Nicholas Jones (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2003-03-10 20:59:38 UTC
Done and Done.
fixed in cvs for 47-r9
